SCHECTER HISTORY

It may seem to most musicians, that not much has changed since the inception of the electric guitar in the 1940's. Basically... that's true. Those same early body shapes and pickup configurations are still popular today. Most of the innovations that made those instruments easier to play, sound better or cosmetically more attractive occurred during the 1970 - 1980 time period.

During that time, Schecter Guitar Research pioneered the custom modification process by introducing improved hardware, advanced pickup technology and exotic wood bodies and necks. Today, those same custom modifications are considered as standard features for every high quality instrument. If you think back to the first time that you saw black hardware, tapped pickups or a flamed koa body, more than likely, it was made by Schecter.

Some things never change. Schecter Guitar Research is still a very small company located in Los Angeles, California. We still operate on a limited production basis. We also continue to combine beautiful woods, great sounding pickups and functional hardware to make what most people believe to be "the most highly sought after instrument in the world" today.

Many people do not know that the standard "PT" tele style guitar you can get from Schecter guitars is named after Pete Townshend. Schecter produced his tele styled guitars in the early 80's

After careful consideration, it becomes obvious... most of today's manufacturers are content to match standards that we set over a decade ago. Schecter Guitar Research - A step ahead yesterday, today and tomorrow.
